US-backed Syrian democratic forces confirm having captured IS-held Raqqa
The US-upheld Syrian Democratic Forces said
today they had completely caught the Islamic State gathering's previous Syrian
fortification Raqqa, after over four months of battling.
"Everything is done in Raqqa, our
powers have taken full control of Raqqa," SDF representative Talal Sello
told AFP.
"The military operations in Raqqa have
completed, however there are clearing operations now in progress to reveal any
sleeper cells there may be and evacuate mines," he included.
"Before long there will be an official
explanation reporting the freedom of the city."
The city's catch comes after the SDF today
grabbed the last two remaining IS positions in Raqqa,
the national healing center and the civil stadium.
Recently, the SDF had taken the notorious
Al-Naim activity circle, named the "Circuitous of Hell" by occupants
under IS lead on the grounds that the jihadists utilized it for open
decapitations and torturous killings.
The SDF, a cooperation of Kurdish and Arab
contenders, started their operation to drive IS from Raqqa last November,
investing months surrounding the city before softening into it up June.
Through the span of four months, they caught nearly 90
for every penny of the city, however operations were stopped a week ago to
enable nearby authorities to arrange the departure of thousands of caught
